Mental Wellness Has Many Layers
S.O.O.P Original Series
At Sweeping Our Own Porch, we create original series to break down the different layers of mental health and explore its impact on individuals and society as a whole. Mental health affects us all, transcending boundaries of age, gender, race, and socio-economic status. By examining mental health from multiple perspectives, we are able to highlight its complexities and the diverse experiences people face. We believe that it is crucial to explore mental health on different levels personal, communal, and societal so that we can foster empathy, understanding, and create avenues for healing. By sharing these stories, we offer varied viewpoints and ensure that mental health is approached with the depth and care it deserves, helping to dismantle stigmas and encourage open dialogue

Our Original Series "The Real Cost of Change: The Mental Suffering After the Marches – The Hidden Struggles of Heroes"
The Real Cost of Change is a powerful and thought-provoking original series that takes a deep dive into the mental and emotional toll endured by African-American leaders during the Civil Rights Movement. This segment sheds light on the untold stories of the men and women who fought against segregation and for the inclusion of African-Americans in the fabric of America.
While these heroes are often remembered for their public displays of strength, courage, and unwavering commitment to justice, The Real Cost of Change explores the hidden struggles they faced behind closed doors—the mental suffering and emotional weight they carried long after the marches had ended. The series reflects on the inner battles these warriors fought, the psychological scars they bore, and the complex realities they lived with, revealing the silent burdens that were often overlooked.
By sharing these raw, personal accounts, we aim to honor their sacrifices, provide insight into the mental health challenges of those who have fought for freedom, and foster understanding about the importance of addressing the emotional costs of social change. This segment serves as a reminder that strength is not just measured by what can be seen on the outside but by the resilience and vulnerability of the soul.
Join us as we amplify these voices and uncover the hidden struggles that shaped the Civil Rights Movement, and continue the conversation on mental health within our community.
